3gs able to downgrade?

Guys:
Currently i have a 3GS on 5.1 baseband 6.15 jailbroken and unlocked tethered of course. I ran Tinyumbrella, hit save SHSH and ended up with two files on my desktop about 5.82 kb each
-2040664519980-iphone2,1-5.1.shsh
-2040664519980-iphone2,1-4.1.shsh

I checked the 3GS it is on new bootrom and am wanting to downgrade this biatch to 5.0.1 so i can have untethered jbreak.



Can I just proceed with ifaith and do the downgrade? am I missing something?


any directions is helpful.

If you dont have SHSH saved you cant do it.

Either way you need shsh/blobs via
1- Tinyumbrella
2- Cydia
3- Apple still signing it (like in case with 4.1)

Formula is,

If X= 5.0.1 Blob
Y= Iphone restore 5.0.1
Z= Untethered jailbreak

Then, Z = X+Y

thank you fellas, i should friggin decode your anwers first
so no blob for 5.0 then no friggin upgrade possible to 5.0 after downgrade to 4.1.


How is 4.1 on a 3gs? i may stick with that

Your choice. Just get the tethered option for now if you like ios 5 features. And install all tweaks when sitting on laptop and boot in tethered mode.

then never reboot, whenever cydia says reboot you just press home button and close cydia via application switcher. personally i think any jailbreak is fine once you get used to it but i am really glad we have an untethered jailbreak coming up soon like on WWDC convention or some special date.

The choice is purely yours.

in any case you need to do custom firmware as you have ipad baseband and you can never go back to stock ios.

Thanks Conar, so far I am liking this 3GS on 5.1, then again i have never used an iphone before , I have been a winmo guy for long time. I know 4.1 to 5.1 is a big jump and can only imagine the improvements.
I read in ipog2g blog that 3gs wont get untehtered jb, so that s what is rushing my decision to downgrade to 4.1, and then go up to 4.3 until i get a better device .
Anywho appreciate the input man

I`m glad its working now. tethered jailbreak is not so bad once you get used to it. But i recommend you check cydia for shsh blobs saved by chance as sometimes they may be saved on the server (i.e select CHECK FROM CYDIA OPTION in advanced or where you see it) You can use Tinyumbrella or Redsn0w on PC and I S H Shi T (without the spaces) from cydia to check.

The blobs will allow you to downgrade if you have a supported shsh blob for 4.3, 5.0.1 etc. Its worth the try.

Till then 4.1 aint so bad either so good luck with your new toy.

coming from wonmo i thinker a lot, and nex to iphone umma beat the siht out of it and try all, so i need to be able to reboot on the fly.
I downgraded to 4.1

setting it up and going to 4.3 will be my next move

only pulled 5.1 and 4.1 shsh

use iREB-r5 enter recory mode and restore 4.2.1 or 3.1.3.
