Advice needed from iphone experts - GSM-Forum

Hi every one. I bought a iphone 8gb from a friend. But lot of my friend stuff in the phone (pictures,videos etc) also phone hang some time. So i like to restore the iphone. But the problem is this phone already jail broke and unlocked. Friend already lost original carrier sim. My question is can i restore the original with out original carrier sim?
Pls guide me? Because some says if we restore the iphone we must need to activate iphone again using orinal carrier sim? Is it true?

Pls help me experts

if you have iphone 2g or 3g then you can easily jailbreak and unlock.if you have 3gs then you need orginal carrier sim sir...,

that mean i can restore iphone2g without original carrier sim with out no problem?

yes u can ...................update your iphone 2g with 3.1.2 custom firmware useing itunes..

i restore the phone successfully. i can dial call and received calls with no problem. but i can not access spiring board? now what can i do?

i directry updated using itunes. i can not go inside to check the version
