3014 sounds like connection problem, or false edited hosts file.

Fix connection problem, put phone to DFU mode, restore to 4.0.1 again, when logo with cable appears press Kick button in TinyUmbrella.

we'll if you are sure that your phone is factory unlocked, there is no problem at all even if you update that to 4.1 when i comes to signal. it will always have signal.

the only thing is, you cannot jailbreak it. you have to wait for greenpoison or comex's work to come out for you to jailbreak it.

it is said that firmware lower than 4.1 is no longer supported for restore on itunes. tinyumbrella doesn't support it also. 3g only can have shsh saved in cydia.

Not true. You can restore any firmware version with iTunes. You just need shsh backup.

For 3G, you can restore to any version, even without shsh backup, but with iTunes and firmware >=4.0 you also need shsh. But you can use redsn0w instead, if you don't have shsh.

Ah, and TinyUmbrella supports all versions.
