is there a way to hide files temporarily and then unhide them on iphone 2.1?

u can get an app called 'poof' which will hide any icons on your springboard but as to hiding specific files such as pictures i do not think there is a way

im guessing you have naughty pictures u need to hide from the wife!? haha

well i dont want to hide icons just some pics or videos ;o)

need to hide files not icons

There's an application in the App Store that can do this: Private Pics. Requires 2.2, might do the trick for people who need some basic picture hiding on stock iPhones.

dudes, the app you are looking for is called iDiscrete.

iDiscrete for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

it "password protects" by registering a defined touch sequence on a "Loading" screen. very slick, as i've always thought asking for a password seemed very suspicious... icon and shown name (iD) is meant to cover the real purpose of the app. this is as covert as you can get, since Apple will not allow an app to change its icon/name.
there is, however, a jailbreak version of this app on Rock, i think it's called iDiscrete JB. it lets you choose your own icon/name, or hide it as an Apple app (like Stocks or Contacts for example)
