How to solve “Unable to recognize specified IPSW”
How to solve “Unable to recognize specified IPSW” Error in Redsn0w

When user tries to browse iOS 4 firmware file from Redsn0w, an error pops up “Unable to recognize specified IPSW”.

This problem can be solved by the following methods.

1) Make sure that you have installed right build of Redsn0w. In this case it should be Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. You can Download Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 from Here.
2) Make sure that the right build of iOS4 firmware file is being used for iphone 3G. There could be confusion because Goldmaster (GM build) and Final release uses the same build number so filename both would be the same, that means iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw but Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-4 would only be able to verify the Final release of iOS4 firmware so make sure to download it from trusted source. You can download verified iOS4 firmware file from Here.

whats the software running on iphone u want to jailbeak/service?

Understand that its the software version running on the 'idevice' that will determine the redsn0w you will need.

Today's latest version of redsn0w actually supports latest ios firmware 5.1.1 backing up support till 4.0 on all devices .

Anything earlier your going to need previous versions.

in all cases google is your friend!
