Iphone 3G error 1015 after 4.2.1 restored

Dear all,

So, basically I have restored my Iphone 3G to 4.2.1 (iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw) by using itunes and jailbreak by using redsn0w with 6.15 baseband because I had a baseband that wasn’t able to unlock which is 5.15. After the process, I went to Cydia and installed the ultrasn0w in order to have the unlock! After the reboot I wasn’t able to catch any carrier, so I decided to do the restore again with the exactly same firmware. Now was the moment when all went wrong: my iphone 3g stays everytime I reboot on the recovery mode logo and get an error 1015. I tried the following options:
- Use redsn0w with the 6.15 baseband and didn’t work. Gives me the 1015 error.
- Use the tethered only option on redsn0w but obviously didn’t work.
- Restore normally with the 4.2.1 restore in iTunes, no custom firmware;
After many more times trying, it didn’t work anyway…
- Use enter pwned DFU mode in redsn0w and restore using custom firmware

(iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Custom_Restore.ipsw). Error 1015 again....

- Use iREB-4.0.x-4.1-RC2 and restore with custom firmware, no luck either.
So, anyone here has the solution for this error? Thanks for advance. By the way, just for your references, I'm using redsn0w 0.9.6 (redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5) and (redsn0w_win_0.9.6b6).

Sincerely,

Pangio

use recboot if you have a mac to boot you out of recovery and you will be fine. if not use tinyumbrella. just youtube it. that error is normal after a custom firmware.

Angry Same problem

I have exactly the same problem 3g on 4.2.1 upgraded to baseband 6.16 via reds0w. Some sms app froze the iphone and after that was permenantly stuck on apple reboot. Did a restore via itunes then got 1015 error. Tried recboot and tinyumbrella which both reboot the ipod but it always comes back to the connect to itunes log. Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

David

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

After some trial and error, I have managed to solve this problem, it may sound a bit ridiculous, instead of restoring to custom 4.2.1, I have restored it to 4.1 stock firmware (iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw) and after the restore, you will still get 1015 error, but miraculously the recovery mode logo has changed if you observe properly, just ignore the error and use either recboot or iREB-4.0.x-4.1-RC2 to kick the phone out of recovery mode, the restoring bar will start again and wait until finish, you will get an Iphone with firmware 4.1 and baseband 6.15, use redsn0w to jailbreak and ultrasn0w to unlock. I have solved my Iphone 3G with this method, other models have not been tested, use this method on your own risk, hope can help those in deep misery now. Enjoy

Sincerely,

Pangio

Pangio your solution saved my 3g from going on ebay as broken. I don't know how you figured out that going to 4.1 would do it but thanks for taking the time to tell me
