iphone 3g unlock iso 4.0.2 modem firmware 05.13.04

i bought an i phone 3g from ebay
it has iso 4.0.2
and modem firmware 05.13.04

i need to unlock the phone. what is my best choice for unlocking the phone. i want at lest a 4.1. what should i do? would it be better to stick to 4.0.2 or should i update. any help would be appreciated

For a better and less stress stay on the firmware you are on and just use redsnow thats compatable with 4.0.2 firmware and jailbreak and unlock. But there is custom firmwares for 4.1 that you can install but you are going to need some knowledge of the jailbreak. Just read around on other post to get the idea of jailbreaking if you have no knowledge of it..........
