sim card drawer is probably not fitting in the phone as it should, try to open the phone and check if the drawer is clicking till the end, there is a contact on the motherboard that shouldn't be short when sim is inserted, below the sim reader

i had one like this i left it for a week or two and was about to use it for spares i put it in a customers back and it worked so i bought a new back for it and reconed it its now like new and unlocked on 5.1.1 all i can say is try it in a totally diiferent back check the charging dock conection and as for the sim problem check to make sure all the sim pins in the sim reader are not broken and as viper gsm said that problem is normally at the botton of the sim tray there are two metle pices that touch together when the sim in not in the card slot what i do is bend the pin on the right so it doesnt touch the other one it works but as long as you havent jaolbroke it it could be to do with that if its not unlocked properly hope this helps .......................................br
