ok u can follow those steps and u will recover it
1) open redsn0w, choose restore file (over 401MB if u didn't upgrade phone baseband to ipad otherwise u have to use a custom firmware without baseband)
2) from redsn0w start your iphone in dfu mode
3) now u can restore from itunes
4) your phone will start normally and clean

Hold the sleep/awake button and home button for like 15secs and ur screen should go back to normal and you should then probably be stuck on apple logo or recovery mode. Then try to restore with offical 4.2.1

If that doesnt work
If you have custom firmware 4.2.1 for iphone 4 then kick your device into pwnd dfu mode with redsn0w or iReb. Just look for iphone 4 custom firmware 4.2.1 cause i cant be bothered looking for a download link. anyway after entering pwnd dfu mode, open itunes, hold shift and locate the custom firmware and do the restore.

If none of these methods work then i dont know how to help. For extra information and instructions just use google
