iphone 4s 16 gb white

i have a fren of mine who has got iphone 4s 16gb white(Brand new) and he claims it to be factory unlocked shipped from USA some days back only with firmware version 5.0 and baseband 1.0.14 along with carrier simcard which was showing at the startup to activate iphone... i have activated it through itunes and normal sprinboard cames.. i was able to see all the features.
however when i insert my simcard a pop msg came to activate it "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier store." i am confused however i jailbreaked it absinthe-win-0.4 and still same msg showing...
does anyone have idea whether it is factory unlocked or not
