I have the same problem activation fail. I have a Sprint iphone 5 I used Sprint sim card to activated but kept getting the same message sim card not supported. I am so confused. With the 4S you dont need a sim card to activated you can activate the CDMA network via wifi or itunes but with iphone 5 its required sim card.

Activation Fail "Solved"
This is how I bypass activation without original sim card for my Sprint iPhone 5.
Bought R-Sim 8 from Ebay. Power off my phone put a nano sim on top of the R-Sim 8.
Power on phone wait for pop up menu then choose OS 6 for 4S or 5 or CDMA then select the phone carrier not your sim carrier then accept power off phone then turn on phone finish the rest of activation then unlock your phone. Hope this will help

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.

same problem ........... how to solve this ??
i try with uasim card, all back to normal when i put other sim card need activation

You've not mentioned your iPhone model or iOS version. Anyway, you have a solution if yours is an iPhone 4 or 3GS running iOS 6 up-to 6.1.3. You need use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze 2.9.14 to jailbreak the phone tethered and skip the activation step function to get into the phone. Sn0wbreeze also supports preserving previously unlockable basebands so you can get Ultrasn0w to re-enable the network connectivity. Another method is to use a GEVEY SIM- search in YouTube and you'll get the instructions for latest iOS.
