iPod 4G Stuck? Please Help! ;-;

Hello, my boyfriend owns an iPod Touch 4G and I'm helping him fix it.. We had jailbroken it using Redsn0w with firmware 4.1 and it was completely fine until one random day it incountered this problem; Recovery Mode. He tried restoring it to get the error 1601. (Not that I knew what it was at the time, I wasn't around at that moment and he didn't write it down for me) I tried various methods to work around this to no avail, including Blackra1n, Redsn0w again.. etc. And then we tried to restore it on iTunes again (To show me the error number so I could try and find a specific bypass just for that error code) and got stuck on the white screen. He took it off after we got the error and I tried a few things to get it out of the white screen but finally did the DFU mode method and it worked.. But.. now it's completely stuck in black screen.. Like, using redsn0w didn't work, even.. nothing has gotten it out of the black screen at all.. I'm starting to get scared because it's brand new and I don't want them to have to buy a new one ): I've been working on this for over 8 hours... Please help!

iPod specs;
iPod Touch 4G
Firmware: 4.1
Size: 32GB

Computers Used; Various Windows systems.. XP, Vista, and 7.
Currently, though.. Windows 7 (The other computers are at a different house and currently unavailable for my use)

Edit: Oh, and I'm not so sure if it'll help, but.. for iTunes to recognize the iPod, I have to do the DFU mode method each time (sleep button 3 seconds, both 10 seconds, home button 15 seconds)

Whenever I do that, it just sits at 'Waiting for Reboot' for the longest time.. I can try letting it sit at that for longer if you think it'll help. ><; I think I let it go for, like.. 20 minutes before I gave up

Oh, and should I just boot tethered, or what? >>

But restoring by iTunes doesn't work. I get the error '16001' and the screen no longer lights up white like it used to, it just stays black.. There seems to be no sign of life anymore (in my opinion) but when I use to DFU method and the computer detects the iPod, that's it xD If I shift-click restore it, I get the 3194 error

Well.. I tried that to no avail.. ): unless I did it completely wrong or something.. I wasn't completely sure what you meant by digits. There were IPs with other things beside them and the one with gs.apple.com I just kept the apple address and deleted the number..
But what I want to know is.. is it gonna make a difference that absolutely nothing shows up on the screen although it had the connect to iTunes no matter what (or being off) and then later white screen when trying to restore before? I can't find anything on the internet about it..
