Member: 1841756 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | iPod IPSW issue Here's what I have: Dell, Win 7 64 home ver iPod 4G, Upgraded OS to ver 5.1.1 Gecko iPhone Toolkit, ver 0.1 iPod4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.Zip (as directed by Gecko) My problem is, when I unzip the Restore file, I cannot find this file with the IPSW extension. Due to this, Toolkit doesn't recognize it and wont work. I read, somewhere, to rename the Restore Zip file with the IPSW extension. That didn't work either! I have downloaded this file 3 times from different sources with the same results. I have restarted my computer numours times! I think I understand everything else. Of course, the thinking thing could be the issue! I have been at this project for 2 days and just "this far" from a iTunes restore. A project this simple shouldn't be this difficult! What am I doing wrong? Or, what else do I need? Help!!!! Any advice will be most appreciated. Larry |

Member: 1841756 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | First, thanks for the tip. I had tried this once before and it didn't work. I had to try renaming the Zip file once again and since the tip came from someone on this forum, I had faith that there had to be something to it. At first, I had some difficulty changing the extension. As I discovered, all I was doing was adding to the existing file. The Zip remained at the end and Gecko, or Redsn0w, wouldn't recongnize it. After opening the Folders control, turning on the full file name view function, I was able to erase the Zip and add the IPSW extension. Everything went smooth from there and the project is now complete. My near histerical, blond, 15 year old neice will be quite pleased and uncle Larry will be her hero for today.... and maybe tomorrow.... maybe! She is the cover girl for blond magazine and wakes up in a new world everyday. Anyway, thanks for the tip. This was a great learning experience, tho frustrating at times. I'm gonna' hang around here for a while as it appears that I may learn some other things. Larry |
