You probably clicked Update instead of Restore.

If you have a Mac, try to restore on it.

while try to update a 3g 16GB,,, getting error 40

* tried with v4.1 org file
*.tried with v4.21. org file
*. tried by doing pwned DFU first in redsnow and tried to restore with custom file v4.21

same error and phone coming to recovery mode...then tried with tiny umberlla to kick out .....

but same

What baseband version do you have? If you installed 6.15 baseband from redsn0w, then you can install only custom firmware.

Restart computer; change computer; reinstall system, if iPhone is always in restoring mode: XP users can jump from restoring mode with ibus; MAC users can use iNdependence. (usually on the iPhone with 1.1.1 firmware downgraded from 1.1.2) Baseband firmware on the IPSW is higher than the baseband firmware on the iPad/iPhone. 1

This text belongs to error 1013.

Actually I don't know what iBus is. Probably something very old and not in use anymore nowadays.

But if you have the problem with your device not booting, read this article:
I always get the Apple logo and my device doesn't boot. What can I do?
