Need some real help here please

Hi,

My friend has asked that I try to help her out, a friend overseas has given her a apple iphone, its locked though, no sim with it. When using sims here in Australia for vodaphone and powering up, it says its locked and that emergency number use only is available.

I have brought it home, thinking that you guys BUmobile and so on are switched on about these type of problems.

I have no way of checking version etc, only option i have is emergency number use. Connecting to my pc, iphone connects correctly, itunes ( I have a 16GB itouch ) launches, connects to appstore and say my sim ( I remove from my phone placed in iphone ) does not support the phone or is not a valid carrier ( Vodafone Australia ).

All these jailbreak apps etc I think require the ability to be able to use the iphone allready, this is locked with a little padlock on the top of the screen.

please help, I am really not able to do anything but emergency calls from the phone not even set for english as the slide bar says solo " something "

Have managed to unlock finally with QuickSn0w_v0.96_for_3G.exe I downloaded, to ver 2.20 but 2 things I have noticed and I cant seem to find the answer here

1/ I have no carrier

Using Vodafone Australia, sim card inserted, searches for about 1/2 second then nothing, settings shows no carrier
The phone ( mine ) it comes from is 3G network. Tried all the methods, made sure I did all exactly as stated.

2/ How do I convert the screen to show australian numbering when typing in a telephone number to call, it looks like its another country eg #(###) etc etc

dissable 3g in network settings, when 3g is enabled then its not working for many. Sometimes you need to reset all network settings, also try to put you phone in airplane mode for 30 second and then put it on again it should do the trick. Check if your modem version isn't 2.30.03 then the phones baseband is updated and it will be a little bit harder to get it to work but from today a free solution is out for that 2.

And for your numbering i think it is like that in iphone, its done for the us i think. Try to go in settings / international and choose australia if you have that option, maybe it works. Dont have an iphone beside me so i can not give 100% clear instructions. Anyway i hope something of what i written will help.

Try to use cable method with hackz method for good network!
