No Signal Bars iPhone 3G 4.2.1 BB 06.15.00

Before everyone bites my head off, I have searched for days about this and the only place that makes any sense is here. Hopefully someone can explain or even answer my problem.

My mate has been given an iPhone 3G 4.2.1 by his brother-in-law (he's owned it from new. because he's got an iPhone 4. The problem is my mate is on Vodaphone UK. The phone originally was on Orange uk.

I've follow all the guides and suggestions known to man. I've updated the firmware to 06.15.00 to use Ultrasn0w but that doesnt work. I've tried manually inserting the .deb files as mention if you didnt have wifi.

All the results are the same. You can put any sim in the phone and it will bring up the network of the sim installed but none of the sim cards have any bars of signal, not even sims out of working iPhones including my O2 3GS or my work Vodaphone 3GS.

I've jailbroke the phone so many times i cant remember. It has a custom IPSW file, Cydia is installed no problem etc. I think i've done just about everything possible.

Today i took it into the local phone shop. He pushed the home button and saw the name of the network of the sim and noticed there was no signal and he said that the phone is locked.

Can anyone please shed any light on this, i've been trying to get it to work for over a week now.

iPhone 3G, 4.2.1, BB 06.15.00, Jailbroke using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8

Thanks in advance, sorry for the essay.

Whats iccd mean and where would i find it. If it doesnt have letters or numbers then what is it supposed to have.

The best response i get off any sim card is when i put my sisters orange uk
3g card in. When i do this i get "waiting for activation this may take some time". This isnt ideal but better than the other sims where i get nothing at all.
