[Why and How to Fix] White Cydia Icon and Safari Crashing When Using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1

Update #2: The notion of a “tethered” jailbreak is pretty new to many people, so here’s a quick rundown on what to expect:

If you’re on an iPhone3G, old-bootrom iPhone3GS, or non-MC ipt2g, life is easy. redsn0w installed an untethered jailbreak and so nothing below applies.

“Tethered” does not mean you cannot boot at all without PC/Mac assistance. If you have not installed any tweaks that hook into important programs like SpringBoard or CommCenter, your device will actually boot. However, jailbreak programs like Cydia won’t work (and Cydia may still have a white icon). Also, certain built-in apps that had to be moved by Cydia will fail (Safari being the most noticeable example).

If you’ve installed MobileSubstrate tweaks that hook into SpringBoard or other important programs, your boot will actually fail (you’ll get stuck at the Apple logo). You need to use redsn0w to “Just boot tethered right now”.

Remember, @comex and others are working on a way to untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak. Meanwhile, the above 3 points hopefully will make it all seem less confusing

You can avoid the reasons above to enjoy a jailbreak free of bugs (i.e. White Cydia Icon and/or Safari Crashing), but I highly recommend to wait for the comex untethered jailbreak on 4.2.1 which expected to be very professional (still no ETA).

Yes my fren we can understand your situation and we are also affected with it bcoz of a buch of same posts!!!!!

But we are not reacting like you the hugest spammer!!!!!!!!!!

Well i have also updated my iphone 3gs to ios 4.2.1!!!

But i did not jailbreak it and still the problem was there for safari!!!!!!!!

So i thought to downgraded it to ios 4.1 and i did it too!!!!

And this post can be very useful to other guys who are unknown about that!!!!

no i did not jailbreak it!

bcoz i have unlocked my iphone by imei and which can be activated with any sim!!just the only condition is it should be without pin!!!!!

i updated it from directly itunes!!!!

that means i had problem with unjailbroken iphone!!!

even musclenerd has also twitted about safari crash on ios 4.2.1!!!!

muschlenerd twiited about safari crash we all know that..but its all about redsn0w thethered jailbreak problem..not ios 4.2.1 stock firmware problem..m using right now my both iphone with 4.2.1 ..both are working good..trust me..try restore again..may be it can solve the prob..

yup my friend i know that after jailbreak ios 4.2.1 there is problem about safari crashing!!!

I had 12 pcs of iphone 4g and 7 pcs of iphone 3gs to be restored to ios 4.2.1 and they ware original unlocked!!!!

among them in an iphone 4g i was facing the lcd blinking problem sometimes also, and it was not jailbroken also!!!!

i m not saying that in all the iphones there will be problems!!!

i was just wanted to say that my post was about to get all the issues with ios 4.2.1 at one place, that anyone can get the full information about it!!!!!!

its just fresh ios in the market let the users spread their views!!!!!

right now i m having problem with safari crashing!!!!!!
