im trying to preserve baseband on iphone4 & getting loads of errors on itunes , i read that the preservation baseband trick doesnt work anymore since 5.1 was out . is it true?

its working via sn0wbreeze it will work just fine

You can only do no baseband update for 5.1. Apple is no longer signing 5.01.

make sure the baseband update option in tu is not checked.

yes i know that 5.0.1 is not signed ... im trying to update to 5.1 and preserving baseband and im getting error 1604 . Update BB in TU is unchecked too

Created Custom IPSW with snowbreeze and restoring with itunes ( clean install no TSS server running and hosts.umbrella deleted and hosts cleaned ) & get error 1604 .

also will gevey work with iphone 4 v5.1 with baseband preserved ?

did you have your idevice on dfu mode first before trying to restore with custom firmware?

nope... infact that was the problem .. caz i didnt put it in DFU mode .... its just that i had downloaded 5.0.1 custom and i never had to put iphone into DFU mode when they were still signing 5.0.1

ok but if you have iphone 3gs or iphone 4 with shsh saved,you can still restore again to 5.0.1 but if not on 3gs or 4 (ipad2 and 4s) there is no way to restore to lower firmware.
Don´t forget even with shsh saved you still have to make a change to your host file.I can guide you but first tell my what kind of idevice you have and if you have 5.0.1 shsh saved.

do you have 5.0.1 shsh saved locally or in cydia?

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
open hosts with notepad and add this line
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
plug in your idevice, then switch it off,press the sleep and buttons together for 10 seconds, release the sleep button while still holding the home for another 10 to minutes, your screen remains black.then run redsn0w,go to extras and select pwned dfu,after that you can restore with your custom firmware through itunes.
don´t forget to revert the changes you made in your hosts file.
