Question for: Iphone 3Gs old bootrom 6.15.00 4.2.1 to 4.1

I recently jail broke my phone using redsn0w 0.9.6b5- installed cydia and changed firmware to 6.15.00. After that, I added repo.bingner.com to sources in Cydia so I could install SAM and prevent the massive battery drain accompanied with unlocking. Then I deactiavted it using redsn0w 0.9.6b5. However, after doing that my Iphone was bricked- only the apple logo would show up. I figured out if i just booted tethered that it would get my device to start working again, but every time I tried to install something new, it wouldn't work. I read online that this is a common issue with 3gs old bootrom and that if you restore using itunes and download IOS 4.1, it solves the issue. I want to keep it on IOS 4.1 because the tethered boot is getting annoying (i have had to do it 20 times in the last hour).
My Question is, I want to use limera1n to jailbreak my iphone. I want to use SAM to deactivate it, so that when I unlock it, I won't kill my battery. Is it possible to jailbreak using limera1n, deactivatea using redsn0w/SAM, and unlock using Cydia?
