reset all data and settings.. now having problems... Please please help - GSM-Forum

Good day, I have an I phone 3gs, upgraded it a few weeks ago to os 4.0.1. I added a repository in cydia and it went haywire. Then I reset it "reset all data and settings", the problem was it got stuck on the apple logo.

So I followed the instructions here in the forums, entered into recovery mode and tried to use the firmware for 4.0.1 for 3gs. The problem was that it states "iphone could not be restored because the firmware is incompatible."

I checked my serial number on my iphone, searched the web and this site
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
and it confimed that I have an Iphone 3gs.

Then I checked the firmware that I have downloaded.
I did download the correct firmware "iphone2,1_4.0.1_8A306_restore.ipsw

Tried to restore my old firmware of 3.1.2, it came with an error 1015 that I cannot downgrade it. Tried to restore it again with the 4.0.1 firmware and again it states that the firmware is not compatible.

am at a lost already, please if there's anyone that can help me.

If you sure what you have 3gs then try to download different software for your phone

os 4.0.2 doesn't have a jailbreak and unlock yet, that's why I am trying to restore it to 4.0.1

restore with 4.0.2 after that download tiny umbrella from here The Firmware Umbrella then save ur shsh on 4.0.1 after save shsh restore again ur iphone with 4.0.1 firmware then active with orignal sim and jailbreak with jailbreakme.com and unlock with ultrasn0w i hope my this method will help ur thnks................

solved restore to 4.0.2 and waiting for jailbreak for this version no way for this problem

update:

What I did was to open umbrella, connected to tss server, then when I saw that it was able to detect my iphone, I tried to restore iphone again using 4.0.1 firmware that I downloaded from other site. This time it seems to be working, untill when itunes was verifying the restore, it got another error, 3002. And thought it was not able to restore my iphone from its 4.0.1 state, when I looked at my phone it was back to its 3.1.2 state.

After this, I jailbreak it with jailbreakme and unlocked with ultrasnow (blackrain doesn't seem to be working, missing ASL.dll).

After this, when I tried to restore from previous back up, all my back up files seems to be missing, the only files left are those of 2009.

After this, everytime I try to upgrade to 4.0.1 using restore, it gives the 3002 error, and the last time gave me an error of "iphone software update server could not be contacted."

My question is, I hope you guys will humor my stupidity. When I read that apple has stopped signing 4 and 4.0.1, does this mean that people who are still in 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 cannot upgrade to 4.0.1 anymore, that the only choice they have is to either get stuck with OS3 or upgrade to 4.0.2.

Was able to restore my iphone to os 4.0.1 :-)

I followed thr procedure on editing the host file then restore using firmware for os 4.0.1, jailbroken with jailbreakme and unlocked with ultrsnow.
