Safest way to install cracked apps (ipa's)? Can Apple detect cracked ipa's?

First of all, I have just stumbled across these forums after purchasing a 3G 2 weeks ago. These are easily the best iPhone forums for hacking & jailbreaking your iphone.

I jailbroke my phone about a week ago and have been very happy with the options after jailbreaking my device. I have installed a couple of IPA's using iTunes and everything has worked flawlessly. I have even spent $50 on apps that I "tried" out and wanted to buy soon afterwards.

Here is my question. Is there a safer way to install IPA's on my iphone without Apple knowing? I am a bit uneasy about using iTunes since it could easily send data back to Apple. I know part of hacking and jailbreaking is taking a risk/chance. However, I was just wondering what would be the most fail safe way to do this without getting caught.

I am sorry for the total noob post, but most of the research I have done turns up links/pages/threads over a year old. I haven't used SSH or anything yet but can research that as well.
