When you try to restore 4.2.1 suppose you get error 1015...
then u you want 4.2.1 firmware in your mobile ...

do the below,It worked for me,definitely should work you too,
download Snowbreez v2.2
iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones

Run snowbreez
press ok
close credits
browse 4.2.1 3g/3gs/4g according to your phone,
Expert mode next
general
click check activate the iphone heck box,
then build custom ipsw,
choose or not choose play pickman option,
snowbreez custom firmware will be created,
pleaze exactly follow the procedure to dfu mode,
after dfu mode...
Restore with itunes snowbreez build custom firmware which will be desktop or snowbreez folder.

got one 3g always shows error 1015 for firmware 4.2.1 cannot exit recovery mode but work with 4.1 and 3.1.3 can exit by iREB
my customer want only 4.2.1 firmware tried every method
at last this method worked,thank you.but you missed some minor steps,Snowbreeze iS really great tool.

when restore is complete unlock is simple,
this is for those who cannot complete restore for 4.2.1 firmware,
this should work for 3gs and 4g and tested worked for me, very impotent thing is your I phone base band preserve..........
you can unlock with Redsnow as same as old method

Yes snowbreeze is a great alternative. I got it on my 3G few days back but noticed sig. slow device speed with poor navigation during multitasking.installed it twice but no help.
and i also disliked the snow logo

now lets hope theres a way to kick 4.2.1 out of the recovery mode soon.

Don"t use any your custom firmware!did you understand and read how to do?snowbreez made firmware for you,use it for restore not your custom file,does your battery have enough power? let it charge for half on hour then try,
