U can update your iphone 4 4.2.1 without update your baseband.Whole process i describe u and u read carefully my instruction.

<1> U can download itunes 10.1.1
Original iphone firmware 4.1.2 here
Custome iphone firmware 4.1.2 here
iREB 4.0x/4.1 here
redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc7b here

<2> Now open ireb choose your device and follow instruction and expoilt to limera1n your device.

<3> Now go back to itunes and ready to prepare custome firmware in your device.

<4> Now sit back and relax without any errors your restoration process is complete.

<5> Once complete your process your iphone on emergancy call screen and u can see u are in 4.1.2 and baseband 01.59.00 check this software here f0recast

<6> This custome firmware can't activate your device.

<7> Now main part is u can activate your iphone with original carrier sim or programmble sim because u can activate your device using redsn0w u my face battery draining issue.

<8> Once activate your iphone u see second home screen on cydia but it dosen't take it open and safari too.

<9> Now shurtdown your device and open redsn0w and choose original firmware 4.1.2.after patching kernal tick only INSTALL CYDIA and follow the instruction.Process begin and all jailbreak data install and flashing nor part.

<10> After finish all process your device reboot and u see fully worked cydia and safari too.

<11> Now go to cydia and unlock your device using ultrasn0w.

<12> Enjoy your unlockable and thethered device

u need untheard jailbreack

I phone 4 (4.1 bb 01.59.00) unlock available
1. open redsn0w 0.9.6rc7
2. org 4.1 and go to DFU mode
3. open i tunes 4.1 custom activated install
4. open iphone folder click
...open VAR
open root
open media

If it is empty..make new folder.named"Cydia"
open Cydia ..
IN "cydia" folder make another folder named:AutoInstall"
IN :AutoInstall" folder past ultrasn0w files(First extrac it then Past)
REboot 2 time..
ENjoy
