Why does my iphone 3GS keep restarting

it restart by itself anywhere from 2-4 minutes. the phone is not jailbreak or anything. on 5.0 version and 5.16.05 firmware. do you guys think its because a cable is loose inside? logically even if it's loose then i meant the phone is being sat on top of a table without me touching it and it still restart by itself.

someone help me out

has the battery been changed recently?
3GS is very finicky about the battery and will reboot itself often unless the proper battery is installed.

Not sure , but they're not compatible

The battery contains gas gauge chip, which communicates charge level to board -> since iOS4 system watchdog monitors status of gasgauge, any problems, incorrect part number/ copy battery, or damaged connectors - the phone will reboot (usually every 4 min)

You can check iRecovery in interactive mode to see exact gas gauge error information as reported to iBoot, and give you some clues as to what's wrong without even opening it. Otherwise just order OEM part and refit carefully- problem solved
