The battery contains gas gauge chip, which communicates charge level to board -> since iOS4 system watchdog monitors status of gasgauge, any problems, incorrect part number/ copy battery, or damaged connectors - the phone will reboot (usually every 4 min) You can check iRecovery in interactive mode to see exact gas gauge error information as reported to iBoot, and give you some clues as to what's wrong without even opening it.
