iOS 4.3 Takes One More Step Closer to Reality

If you’ve been looking forward to some of the goodies contained in iOS 4.3 — Apple’s latest firmware for the iPhone and other devices — then no doubt this will be music to your ears.

It appears that iOS 4.3 has finally gone gold, meaning that the firmware has been tested and finalized.

This indicates that we could see iOS 4.3 released to the public in the very near future — next week, even…

What else does iOS 4.3 mean for iPhone users? For starters it brings mobile hotspot capabilities, something Verizon users are already enjoying with their updated 4.2.6 firmware.

Secondly, it brings improved AirPlay support for 3rd party apps. To me, the AirPlay support is the biggie in this release, because even though the jailbreak community has been able to circumvent some of these restrictions, it still isn’t as good as what Apple’s latest firmware brings to the table.

Just remember; do not jump the gun and update if you’re relying on a jailbreak or an unlock. You will need to wait until further instructions come out before updating you device, or else you will lose both your jailbreak and unlock if applicable.

Considering that Apple has an iPad 2 media event scheduled for next Wednesday, there’s no better time to reveal iOS 4.3 to the public, possibly releasing it the same day.

Turn your iPhone 4 into a Digital Camera

[QUOTE]
There’s been a rapid growth in number of people who take pictures with the iPhone. With the improved camera functions, the iPhone 4 became a strong competitor in the compact digital camera market. The idea of using the iPhone as a camera is not only attractive, because of its great camera functions, but it also has a wide variety of applications available on the App Store to further the photo/video taking experience.

However, there are limitations to the iPhone itself, this is where Turtleback comes in. Solving these issue, Turtleback have designed a jacket that would allow iPhone users to mount the iPhone on a tripod and attach conversion lenses to it. By using the Turtleback jacket you could utilize the numerous conversion lenses that you’ve bought to use with your camcorder and you’ll also be able to mount your iPhone on a tripod. Offered above is a look at the setup, available to purchase directly through Turtleback

PS3 Games on iPhone, iPad, iPod iOS Devices!

Today the EveryAir blog has been updated with news and a video courtesy of pandaelves demonstrating EveryAir running PS3 Games via iPhone, iPad, and iPod iOS devices.

Quote:
With a little wrangling of hardware and software, we were able to put together a demo of how to play PS3 games on an iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

The trick is to connect a capture device and a USB mouse/keyboard device to the PS3. The capture device sends video data to the PC, and the USB keyboard/mouse sends the button presses.

On the PC itself, you run a custom build of everyAir which understands custom gestures and pipes the input to the PC which then sends it to the PS3 via the input interpreter. More details are described in the video.

TLDR version: We used some off the shelf hardware and everyAir to allow you to play PS3 games on any iOS device.

Q: What's the overall picture for how this works?
A: The trick is to connect a capture device and a USB mouse/keyboard device to the PS3. The capture device sends video data to the PC, and the USB keyboard/mouse sends the button presses. On the PC itself, you run a custom build of everyAir which understands custom gestures and pipes the input to the PC which then sends it to the PS3 via the input interpreter.

Q: What were some of the hurdles?
A: There are two problems to solve: sending the video signal to the iOS device and sending back input from the iOS device. Sending the video signal is solved by using an off the shelf capture device, and then sending back the input is a combination of a custom build of everyAir with an off the shelf mouse/keyboard device that connects to the PS3.

Q: How do you send input to the PS3?
A: Using one of those USB Keyboard/Mouse devices. For example, Eagle Eye (search for it on Amazon).

Q: How do you get the video signal from the PS3 to the iOS device?
A: We do this by using an off the shelf capture device. The capture device connects to the PC, TV, and to the PS3. The result is that a livestream of the PS3's video signal ends up on the PC.

Q: How do you connect to the PC from the iOS device?
A: Using everyAir - our remote desktop application.

Q: How does everyAir understand the game gestures?
A: We're using a custom build of everyAir, and it's hardcoded to understand these gestures. Additionally, it knows how to pipe input to the mouse/kb device in a way that it expects.

Q: Will this be publicly available?
A: We plan to release a fully customizable version at some point in the future.
