Exclamation problem with brands on ciphone mtk6229

what's up you guys? i spend a lot of time of my life reading what people wrote, and now i have a huge problem.. well.. now.. since few months, but recently i decided to make it public. i bought this phone on september 2008 in china, and i live in Uruguay, southamerica. this phone is quad-brand, and in the configuration section you can chose your brand, or leave it on "auto". the problem is the next, i use a company called "Claro". Claro uses 1900mhz, and this phone supports all of the brands, 850/900/1800/1900. but.. but... i can't connect it to the antennas!! i mean, i put it on "auto", and i can see a signal, but i can't register on it, if i set an other brand, i see nothing.
how do i connect to other brands? because using other there is no problem.
and the biggest problem is... i used "Claro" on Brazil, and works so good. what's happening in this country? please give me an answer.
and sorry about my failing writing

Forget what the engineer mode suggests this phone acutually supoorts re: bandwidth, I know GSM 1900 is mentioned in the engineer mode but I pretty much convinced this phone only supports GSM 900 / 1800
