does anyone know of a program that will give you an easy to access volume button with a simple slider to say control ptunes volume while you are in other programs?

ptunes itself has that option. Press menu and look under general pref and background pref...

there aren't any restrictions but it asks you to buy...nm...ptunes skins does not have any limited days restriction but you will just see the screen saying ur demo has expired and not the actual skin...

Two additional programs:
Netchaser - a WiFi Scanner
BackUpMan 2 - a fast backup solution with encryption, sheduled backups etc. (selfkeygen - shows serial on startup, then remove backupman and install version of bitsnbolts)
