What has worked for me on 7 8520 units is to make sure the battery is full, then open blackberry apploader and click next, put the battery in the phone and plug it into the usb cable as QUICK as possible, as soon as you see USB PIN Unknown click next immediately, this is important because you catch the phone in it's startup mode, if you wait until it says USB PIN 22b9302c for example it will be too late. Once you have done this all you have to do is wait for the apploader to do the work. This has worked for me on at least 7 units and I would recommend you to try this before going to hardware solution, I must give credit for this solution to Crackberry.com. PS: this solution can take up to 30 minutes so be patient.
