Guide: How to backup contacts from Blackberry with error 523 etc

Coz download manager dont backup data from phone with error 523 etc ..
here is a small guide to backup contacts (as its the most important of all) from a blackberry with these error...

There are two ways to backup BB data with error 523, 217 etc .

First: start phone in safe mode. to do it.. remove batt.

insert battery as the red led goes off keep pressing the escape (BACK) key ..
keep it pressed until the OS loads release the key as the loading bar complete
now you will see a safe mode notification on screen press OK .. done.

now you have enough time to backup data with download manager.


Second: Download a software called BBSAK . you can google it or can get it from here BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife

now coz here we gona play with COD files first lets see what are Cod files. you can chek it here COD Files Explanation

Now install the firmware of the phone you r trying to backup..

Run connect phone run BBSAk goto misc press Read Event Log .. a log file will be shown. scroll down to end .
The file causing the error will be shown .. mostly its the bb_net_rim_application manager that cause this error..
just write down the name of the file u see in log.

now we gona install the file thats causing the error. but before that lets backup the Cod files that contains addressbook..

• net_rim_bb_addressbook address book library
• net_rim_bb_addressbook_app address book application
• net_rim_bb_addressbook_gal address book component to access Global Address List, always required by address book app
• net_rim_bb_addressbook_models address book model (data structure) part
• net_rim_bb_addressbook_vcard VC

BBSAK > modify CODs> read system ... again a window will appear by side naming all the cod files in the phone.
select the files u wana save and press Save COD(s) ... files will b save at C:\Program Files\BBSAK\CODs


now press install COD(s) browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files
now open the folder of ur model .. open java .. there u will see all the cod files ... now select the file that caused the problem ..
you will see a success install massege .. phone will restart in normal state
sometimes more than one file is needed ti install.


now backup data with DM . reload OS and restore.


if installing the cod files din help .. reflash phone .. open BBsak> modify cods> install cods ... now browse to the saved cod files and install them..

I need this help urgent

I'm facing the same problem ( error 523 ) and i dont have a backup ( Bold 9700 )
all what I want is my BBM contacts and the numbers/ad*******.

can you explain more about how to do it?

for example:

How can I know the file that is causing the error? there are a lot of name in the log and I dont know which of them are causing the error ..

I try to follow it but cant find my phone book i have all backup of cod file but unable to recover my phonebook :-(

Thanks the tip really helped me out. For those that the error wasn't net_rim_bb_app just try search net_rim_bb or rim_bb .. mine was rim_bb_phone so I just replaced that and voila .. works .. thanks for the bro that made the tip !

^ yes i've tried and not work. because you need to check the right apps that cause the error. you must read entire the LOGs and analyze it. If you cant, replace /apps and you need more times to finished the job. have you a time?

This is an old solution tested working on os5 devices, never had suceess on os 6 and 7.

u can backup the addressbook code files and replace with new ones but even in safe mode a corrupted code files i wont connect to dm and simply restoring backed up codes wont keep data.
