To check the firmware version of your Blackberry simply navigate it? menu:-

* To find imei is going to Options->Status there you will find imei number of phone.
* The IMEI may also be found on the white sticker under the battery.

Connect your device to your computer.
Open the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
Click Application Loader.
Click Start in Add/Remove Applications or Update Applications.
If necessary, perform the following actions:
If the Device Security Password dialog box appears, type your device password. Click Next.
If the Communication Port Selection dialog box appears, specify a communications port. Click Next.
Click Next.
Perform any of the following actions:
To add an application that appears in the list, select the check box beside the application.
To add an application that does not appear in the list, click Browse. Double-click an application loader (.alx or .ali) file.
Click Next.
Click Finish.

8. how to reset blackberry password ?
Enter wrong password 10 times your device will deletes all your device data & reset user password

9. How do I determine if my BlackBerry is "unlocked" ?

To determine if your BlackBerry is "unlocked" for use on carriers other than for which it is branded:

A. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.
B. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.
If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx and 81xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.
C. Look for Network in the list.
D. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier

10. To obtain an unlock code for your BlackBerry
You will need to know your IMEI number for your BB. Look at Options, Status. The IMEI may also be found on the white sticker under the battery (sometimes hard to read--make sure you read it right!). or need to know Vendor ID (operator)

20. How do I Recover a Dead BlackBerry ?

When your device fails to start, it show one of these symptoms

A. Totally dead
Physical damage, water is the worst enemy of delicate electronic device. Try to hardware.

B. Trying to restart, LED activity only.
Your device is not able to start, something has gone wrong and the OS is corrupt.

C. Failed to start, a white screen with an error message.
Geeks call this an "Uncaught exception error". That is a polite way of saying, the last thread has terminated, the OS has halted because it is corrupt.

In many cases, the Application Loader can be used from Desktop Manager or Windows, If that fails to connect, there is one final solution.

A. In order to restore the device, you need to have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed. The original, as supplied on the BlackBerry CD is adaquite. Tip: If you choose to download the newest v4xx, you can save a lot of time by choosing custom install and disabling Roxio Media Manager. At start-up, it really slows things down until it has built up it index of media.

B. After it is installed, you need to install a BlackBerry OS file that is specific to your device. The original version, as supplied by the carrier, is the safe choice, but you can use any model specific version. This is not supplied on your BlackBerry CD.

C. Once the OS has been installed, you have to prepare it for the device.
Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

D. You are now ready to restore your device. Verify that BlackBerry Desktop Manager is NOT running. Plug the device directly into the computer's USB port.

You will see a black window similar to this. I have used UPPERCASE to highlight the typed commands.

When you hit enter at the last command a forced rebuild will start.

E. When it has finished, unplug it from the USB port and wait for it to finish start-up. Thirty minutes is typical, do not interrupt it.

Once it has recovered, you can use Desktop Manager's Application Loader to customize it and restore from your backup files, if you have saved them previously

Go to your Options : Security >> Security Options (the same page where you can enable/disable passwords) & scroll to the bottom. If there's an IT policy attached, it will be mentioned there. Select General Options
Select Restrict My Identityt - NO
Select Show "My Number" - YES

No more Authorization Failure sending / receiving calls and messages.



26. What is 'data connection refused' ?
* If you do not have a BlackBerry Data Plan then you will see this message on the main screen!
* If you have a data plan and are seeing this message then you will need to call your service provider and have them check the provisioning on the account.
* If you do not have a data plan and want to hide this message from showing up then go to:
Options >> Mobile Network and turn Data Services to OFF.

To install a OS update from a different carrier you have to delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\VENDOR.XML first.
For example > If you are laoding a At&t OS on a At&t device, there is no need to delete vendor.xml file. thats all

8100 doesnt have wifi..

blackberry with 8x20 (8120, 8820 8320) ....has wifi
blackberry with 8x10 (8110, 8310 etc) ....has in built GPS
blackberry with 8x30 (8330, 8830 etc) .... world edition phone (has both cdma and GSM)

the Bold (9500) is a 3g blackberry.. etc
