Press once, and you will be able to connect your PC as terminal to TT, via BT. Press again, and the feature is disabled, etc.

Read post #2517 on how to use a hyperterminal/Windows to connect to TT.

At the # prompt you could enter command:

# extras/TTquickgpsfix/TTquickgpsfix-wrapper

to watch live the satellite position data fetching.
Correction, please prefix the command like this:

# /mnt/sdcard/extras/TTquickgpsfix/TTquickgpsfix-wrapper

No, it is working well, with no restriction at all. A mobile internet provider is indistinguishable from a regular one. The URL is OK, the same one used by TTHome to download Ephemeris.cab.

QuickGPSfix is a free service under TTHome, ergo it should be free on TT too. I recall that the original go910 NC had such a standalone menu item. The new NCs don't have it, I'm afraid (at least, not at top level, unimpeded)

Using the /mnt/sdcard/extras/TTquickgpsfix/TTquickgpsfix-wrapper command repeatedly under TTConsole+PC terminal would permit anyone to evaluate its success rate in a particular configuration.
At most 60KB of data is exchanged each time, so even feeble/scarce data plans would support it, I recon.

Bottom line, have BT enabled and the phone connected (it is a good sign that the BT is really up), OR have a working built-in GPRS modem, and most of the time QuickGPSfix will save you the trouble of connecting to PC to refresh the satellite location data.
Or not... As an ancient PC game once comically recommended: "Go directly to jail, don't collect $100", it's up to you!

Next time I refresh my maps with TTHome, I will publish a typical transcript of the TTquickgpsfix-wrapper command output, for reference. It will help with debugging difficult configurations, hopefully.

Hi all, hi DSA

I've successfully upgraded my GO 910 navcore to 8.398 Work with dsa.app, however there is still a strange thing I can't explain. I already spent a lot of time in reading this so big thread that I prefer to ask (might help some other guys).

At the end of the boot process, my tomtom display goes crazy during maybe 2 seconds, showing some kind of weird pixel patchwork on the whole screen (same screens like resolution not supported on older linux).
To be more accurate, the splash screen is correctly displayed during the tomtom startup. Next the screen content are "random", and two seconds after tomtom navcore appears up and running.

Any idea of what is going on ? or how to fix this ?

Not really, no...
Check the storage (Properties/Tools under Windows, fsck under Linux or MacOS).
Reinstall with dsa.
Check out other NCs too (in the work series, other v8, like v8.417/9), then come back to v8.398.

Get the "good" LoquendoTTS, in an earlier post of mine -- #3301.

I tough it was fixed, thanks to a new fresh install, but with a hard reset, the screen is still there. Would you like a photo ?

Could it be due to the bootloader ? I kept the one provided by the latest official NC for GO910.

Sorry, but I know that playing with bootloaders could lead to drastically upgrade of my gps to a useless brick should I try to pick one in particular ?
I know, in fact I read that you are using a GO910 with CF. Could you advise me a specific BL for a 910 with HDD ?

Just to understand, tomtom bootloaders are not specific to devices and their hardware specs ? for example 5.5120 for example could be deployed on GO 920, 910 with HDD or on XXL, am i right ?

By the way, let me thank you for your wonderfull tool. I just realized that using go x40 skin allow me to use vocal commands from navigation. It is so cool, at least when my gps understand me

BL upgrade is safe (except for a few v1.* BLs); downgrade is possible.
I can confirm that I run the latest available BL on my go910 (and the latest NC, v9.450).

Yes, TT should let all capable devices benefit from their latest NC features... but they don't.

Or, if hands-free already configured, attempt a TT (internet) services access which in turn will trigger the wireless setup.
You will see a directory called ppp at the top of your storage when wireless setup is done.
In mode 25(18), enabling wireless data will cause dial-up internet access over your mobile.

Once directory ppp properly setup, you no longer need the wireless data enabled. Hands-free could be disabled too - but you would not like it.

BT should be on, of course, and ideally your hands-free connected. Then QuickGPSfix is guaranteed to succeed -- provided that directory ppp is configured for wireless access.

New files to watch for:
extras/TTquickgpsfix/Ephemeris.cab
extras/TTquickgpsfix/dun
and indeed ephem/ee_meta.txt & ephem/packedephemeris.ee (overwritten).

Note that if your wireless data is enabled, file extras/TTquickgpsfix/dun will not be created.
Yes, thank you. It works fine with my old (ancient!) Nokia 623i but unfortunately when pairing with my Samsung Galaxy GT l9100, Wireless Data is not one of the features reported. Oh well!
I managed to link my Windows XP laptop with a USB Bluetooth device fitted to a laptop USB port to my 720 using Hyperterminal and logged in to the Go720 typing the commands you gave: tail, free etc.
How would I go about finding out the phone address and the channel corresponding to Dial-Up Networking using commands that Windows and Hyperterminal understands?
I think the example you gave was in Linux? So, is it possible?

BTW anyone thinking of trying this could have a look here first to see if their 'phone is compatible. May save a lot of head-scratching.

I don't know... google it?

But, you've got a Linux machine once connected to your TT (TT Tool could be used too, if sharp eyed).
And there, all commands necessary for browsing for other BT devices: "hcitool scan" and "sdptool search --bdaddr <address> DUN"

(QuickGPSfix does it all automatically anyway, and values are stored in file extras/TTquickgpsfix/dun)

I should add that all smartphones (should) have the DUN feature, even if not recognized by TT. Simply pretend that your phone is one of the listed ones, then check with your carrier ('s website) for Internet connection details - usually the APN (e.g. internet, broadband), and set the wireless manually. Or, edit the chat* files inside top directory ppp on TT (with notepad or other Windows plain editor).

OR, make a dial-up network via your phone under Windows, then check the connection log of your respective modem (it's somewhere in the control panel/device manager/modem/properties,etc) and you'll see exactly the required chat commands (of type AT*).
