Hey, I was close enough with my replacement cabinet, I "missed" (intentionally) only the three connect2internet... files, the ASR folder and I had some extra junk license files, and a different (harmless) TomTom-Cfg/release.nfo file.
Not bad at all, I'd say

I tried your instructions with no luck - I think NC9 might well support over 4G SD card. If I remove ttsystem and PNDNavigator, my TT720 boots up fine with NC9 (both on internal 2G card or the external 8G SD card). Note that if I leave one of them in the device it does not boot. i have to remove both of them. I am not sure what they do but they are certaintly stopping my TT720 from booting. NC9 is fine on my TT720 as long as I don't put any destination (which is of no use really if I can't use it for turn-by-turn travel) if not it constantly reboots - again which makes it unusable. I will try and get an older version on the internal card to work.

Mathias,

Mathias,
"If I remove ttsystem and PNDNavigator" -- from where do you remove them?! (from the external card, right?).

I can guess that your TT boots only from the internal card.

If you could confirm my above statements, please.

To make it boot from the external too, you will have to change the BL back to version 5.5229. Did you do that yet?

No - what I have said is true both for the internal card and the external card. Let assume I format the internal card so it has nothing in it. I put a blank 8G SD card and connect to PC. I then switch it on and select the external SD. All is installed there. Using dsa.exe i then build NC9 and install on external SD card. Disconnect it from PC and it will not boot. I then reset it. Connect it to PC and switch it on. Again select external SD card. I can then delete ttsystem and PNDNavigator. Disconnect it from PC and the device boots fine. This proves to me that the size of teh external SD card is not the issue here. But someting if both ttsystem and PNDNavigator is stopping the device from booting. the think if only on of these files is in the device, it still will not boot. So both of them need to be deleted. Now all this process is also true for the internal 2G card. That is, if I remove the external 8G SD and install to the internal card, the problems are the same.

Please, do the following:

A)

1) TAKE OUT the external SD.
2) Install NC 9 AND YOUR TESTING MAP on the internal card.
3) Boot, check the navigation, etc.

I expect things to be 100% OK now.

B)

There are two reasons your external SD wouldn't work: the BL or/and the kernel inside ttsystem.
You said that NC v8.560 was working on the external SD.

1) I can send to you a ttsystem with the v8.560 kernel inside, instead of the v9.000 kernel, it's a piece of cake to build it so.

2) YOU could switch the BL back to version 5.5229 - as described in post #10.

Would you do B)2) now? Only after B)1) ?

Let us first see how A) went on.

DSA,

If I use your tool to patch new NC 9, can I still keep the old Bootloader or will it be automatically replaced? Is it better to keep the old one?

Thanks

A does not work - but if I delete both files I mentioned earlier, it boots up. But the navigation freezes if I try to set any and then it goes into a constant reboot.

I have to say though - after a few reboots PNDNavigator just disappear from the device and even if ttsystem is also deleted, it does not stop the constant reboot. I am not sure what function these files have but would be interested to know.

To keep the old BL, install as usually, BUT BEFORE disconnecting from PC, erase or rename the file "system" from your storage.

I cannot get a proper/clear feedback from mathiaskt yet, so I do not know whether the new BL is affecting the large external SD card support.

If you do not care about large (over 4GB, like 8GB) external SD support, you may as well go with the new BL (do not erase file "system" and it will be flushed in at first device start-up).
If you'd ever decide to go to an older 5.xxxx (e.g. 5.5229) BL, this is possible anyway with dsa.exe.

I have upgraded to BL 5.5256 with no visible side effects to my go 910.

How on earth, with no external SD, and without ttsystem and PNDNavigator on your internal storage, your device would ever boot?!
(are you on something? )

DSA, I am not sure what clarification you need. 8G, 4G is not a problem for the new NC9 (this is what I beleive). The problems I have are the same wether I use the internal card or the external SD card.

OK, let's focus on the external SD card.

Here is a link to nc9.alt.zip:

http://www.2shared.com/file/8452186/...a7/nc9alt.html

It contains the v9 PNDNavigator and v9 ttsystem (patched) but with the v8.560 (Linux) kernel instead of the v9 one (the kernel is embedded in the ttsystem file).

Now, with the recipe in post #10 and with this v8.560 kernel you could establish whether either the 5.5256 BL or the v9 kernel affects the support for the 8GB sd card, or neither.

I would suggest that you first install (with dsa.exe) v9 on the external SD. Then, you should unzip nc9.alt.zip to the external SD (with overwrite all).
If it will boot with the external SD inside, then the problem was with the kernel.

If it still does not boot, you will need to downgrade your BL to version 5.5229. Follow recipe in post #10, put the patched system on the internal SD, remove the external SD and start-up. You'll see the flash screen and your BL will be downgraded (however the BL version will appear as 5.5257, fake number but good old content).
Then put back the external SD, with the original v9 (dsa) patched ttsystem, and boot, etc. It should work, hopefully, with the old BL.

If it still does not boot from the external SD, unzip again nc9.alt.zip to the external SD and boot with the external SD inside.

Good luck, you'll need it!

Thanks dsa8310 - You the man!!!
I built nC9 again and before reloading, I replaced PNDNavigator and ttsystem with the one you sent and it loads fine on the 8G external card. Only problem now is it crashes all the time and it seems stuck in constant reboot. It would be interesting to find out what other users of TT720 are seing. For the time being I am going to downgrade until I have a working system.

Again thanks,
Mathias
