How to put the latest map and Application on a new card for TomTom Go Classic?

I am a newbie here so don’t shoot me. I just need some help installing the latest map on TomTom classic on a new card from scratch. So here are some questions.

What’s the latest application version for TomTom Go Classic?

What’s the latest map you can put on TomTom Go Classic. I just need Great Britain’s map?

What’s the biggest SD card I can use in it?

Also I don’t have any SD card in it. So how do I go about installing the operating software and the map on a new SD card from scratch? I do have a card reader.

Sorry about all the questions. Any help is appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Without shooting you down .... if there isn't a slot to take an SD card in your Go Classic, why do you think that you need to install any software/maps from one.
If your TT Go Classic is like my TT One v3, then you will only have internal memory (which could only be 512 meg...or you might have 1024 meg) in which the software gets installed via your mini usb connection, which it must have.
Therefore you attach your Classic to your pc via the usb cable & do any installing that way.
There are pages & pages on this forum of the correct navcores & maps of the UK for the various versions (the latest is v8) which suit your device, so do your research before you install anything & backup all of what you have now, incase anything goes wrong.
I hope I was gentle on you.

Its one of the the first TomTom GO ever made and I think its refered to as TomTom Go classic now (definitely not TT300) or simply TomTom Go.
On the bottom its reads : TomTom Go (4D00.001)

It has two connections. One for power supply and the other one is a usb for connecting to PC.
It does take a sd memory card. The memory card is only 242 mb. It has nothing on it. So when I put it in TT and connect it to PC it gives a red cross sign.
So how do I put the latest software and map on it.

Ok I have managed to connect the TT with TT Home and it has updated the software on it. Now it has about 17 items on the SD card (9.71 mb ). The free space left is 231.1 mb.

Still no map. The software goes upto version 7.9. TomTom Go I think only goes upto 7.9 and not the latest version 8.

So whats the latest map I can download and put on it and how do I make it work.

OK ..... at least you are now going in the right direction.

have a look at this chart http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/show...postcount=2689

if you want a UK map then I would suggest 825.2159 to fit onto that sd card. (your 79xx will be able to use a v825 map but carefully check the chart)
I would also suggest that you copy/backup all the files from the card onto your pc, and only then delete the existing map directory before installing the new map directory. If the card is then too small, then you will have to buy a new bigger card to fit all the files onto.
Someone else might have an active link to send you for the 825.2159 UK map.
Don't forget that you will have to use yDGpatch or Easyusetools to activate the navcore & map.
Last thing before you do anything ... make a note of your device No. - you will need this to do the map activation crack.
You can then find updated TT camera files & do the activation for those camera files the same way as the map files.
Good luck.

Ok I have downloaded United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_825_2159 (114 mb).
Keygened the map using Easyusetools_for Keygen_Mapcheck_Metacheck_ttsystempatcher. Which produced a .dct for the map. Then I copied this file in the map directory.
Now where do I put the map on SD. Do I just copy all the files in the root directory or do I create a separate folder for it. I don’t have a map folder on the TT.
Thanx for all the help. I am nearly there…..

Another newbie here. Just stumbled onto this thread googling "TOMTOM Go 4D00.001".

I just got an old castoff unit from a friend. I have no idea how to do anything with it, and was first trying to figure out the model # (all i had to go on was the "4D00.001" on the bottom. After much research it seems like mine is also a "GO Classic" like the one asked about here. I have no idea what map or software versions it might be already using, but it does have a memory card already in it.

Trying to go to school on what was already in this thread it sounds to me that there is some way to download new maps/software for this unit and update it somehow via a PC. Being a complete newbie to any of this I am totally in the dark on how to do ANYTHING mentioned in this thread though.

Are there any guides for someone like me who hasn't a clue what he is doing to figure out (a) simply how to use the tomtom i have, (b) how to update it with needed program software or maps, and (c) something to cover all my stupid questions before I ask more of them?!?

Thanks for any hints.
