Question How to remove preinstalled maps on nuvi 1200?

hi mates

got a nuvi 1200 model.it came with pre-installed maps of EU central. Installed the complete map of EU on the memory card but it wont recognize the complete version. It will default to the internal pre-installed one.

Tried to find where the pre-installed is but cannot find it. Usually it is in the Garmin folder but its practically empty.

Any help appreciated
thanks

Preinstalled map is file gmapprom.img in hidden "System" folder
In Explorer -> Folder options -> turn "ON" show hidden and system files and you'll see it.

If You plan to remove it, backup before deleting.
Do not delete other files in "System" folder.

If you'll put another map on device rename file as preinstalled "gmapprom.img", on SD should be named "gmapsupp.img" and in Garmin folder (no folder "System")

mate all files and folders are set to visible. yet cannot find any .img file at all. Its really weird. The problem is that it is not allowing me to use another map of EU which is a later version and of all western not just central. Its sticking to the one that is pre installed.

No System folder exists (not even as a sub folder). The only folders present in the root are...
Garmin
GPX
help
keyboards
reports
help
text
jpeg
vehicle
voice

Connect your nuvi to PC, open root folder on nuvi (to show visible folders like in your post above), then type in explorer's address bar: "\.system" (without quotes)

Do not copy new map images to 'Garmin' folder - make new one named 'Map' (in root) and copy map(s) here.

If I remember correctly, mapsets can be named anything (with IMG extension!) - this way you can add more maps.

you are great! found them!! yes they are there. problem now is that the space left is small. gonna try change extension to the one installed to see if the unit will see the one on the memory card.
