a selfmade probe needs to a very good cable and parts to be used... i advise you to buy te original/or a good quality replacement available at leading electronic supply.... you need to have a good quality probe with a high frequency response....

price depends on frequency response of thhe oscilloscope.. the higher the frequency response the better... mine i have a 100mhz.. a very good response for RF and IF with a very excellent waveshape display..... very clear and faithfull display... for analyzing and troubleshooting....

oscilloscope is use by competent and highly skilled/trained technicians.. you need to know how to interpret waveforms and waveshape, amplitude of waveforms and frequency etc... better to have a crush study on how to use this sophisticated tool....
