Oclhascat lite works by itself.
All the actuall GUI like slap or similar are just needed when you have a big amount of codes to calculate or you have more then one server and you want syncronize them without using any operative system knowledge.
I still do all my bfs using 3 computers in lan simply with oclhashcat-lite and .cmd files
The bruteforce system is not the reason to buy a box as there are dedicated Gui available on the market which will give you a more complete soluton then any box (Sample SL3 net). You buy a box for its servicing capabilities as flashing, reading hash, back-ups, recovering etc etc.

You can still use slap to manage your bruteforces and extract the hash using cyclone. Quite few people do this.
Cyclone box doesn't conflict with any application
