why not if you have smart card/dongle

it works vary good without sim card becouse
without simcard box get proper power supply
when you insert sim power is divided

work as how? it will recieve power as an interface but software must detect smartcard on pc b4 it can open. so you either have smartcard plugged on another usb port via pkey read or inserted in box, those are the two options.

for best result
use mxbox without sim in one fast usb with htc cable or good quality cable.
and use dongle with mx sim in other any usb fast or slow no matter.
you will see a best result.
