Cant install e-gate dongle on win 98 error message

Drvins16 this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down

And the only reason I am trying to install on 98 is because on XP I am getting the time tampered message. Dont want to re-install windows would give me loads of headaches! But this is just not installing and I am getting serial no ???? because of this?

I am at my wits end with the whole thing. The time tampered message is a stupid idea which should be removed. People with official software are ending up unable to use it!!
