The bands are limited by the hardware, and cannot be changed.

How about the Sony Ericsson T610, T616, T637 that people have been talking about?

Some time you can see it by pressing > * < < * < * < (hidden menu) as well.

You can make a T610 say 850MHz, but it won't work on 850MHz (nor will the T616 use 900MHz). The frequency is set in the hardware.

Search around, this topic has been covered a million times...

i've tested this via field test

changed a t610 to t616 R1B firmware and found no 850 channels on the converted whereas my actual t616 only found 850 channels

it was a theory that wouldn't work because of antenna limitations
and possibly other hardware within the phone

depends on the hardware of the phone
if the phone has a quad-band chipset within, sure, you can do it

but if the phone only has the chipset that will recept on 1900/850, how are you going to get it to recept on a completely different frequency?!?!?!

by changing the chipset?

I've asked this question before on another forum:
how possible is it to completely switch out the hardware and get 850 instead of 900?
