You can manually backup RPL by selecting "IMEI and Locks" Menu, then select the "IMEI" tab
on the right side.

To answer your question, proper firmware update will never touch Certificate and PM areas
of phone. You will notice that ALL Flasher Software will just BACKUP the RPL before flashing,
but they will NEVER write it back to the phone in the END of Flashing. The only time the RPL
is overwritten or erased is when you do a full chip erase or you try and upload another RPL
to the phone.
