For you is what you say for me is varistor i remove them like i did in old samsung phones.
And i want to tell you more i meet allot of masters that know all this things about components and they buy allot of tools that are no use they can't solve small faults,i not know this what you say and i not need allot of tools to fix any hardware fault.

phone works.

2 issues left.

Wifi only connects when very close to the hot-spot.
battery drains very fast.

over night in standby mode from 85% down to 24%.
Battery suffert waterdamage as well.
So a new battery will might be needed.

Is a 4S battery the same as a 4 ??
(except for the metal piece on the connector)

in other words can i solder the metal piece from the 4S battery on a 4 battery and test ??

No, 4s battery is different. Always change battery after water damage.

all component in the wifi area are present and look clean.

Of course i can jumper the coil and the filter to have a bit more signal strength. But if they are not damaged this is not the root cause of the problem !

you can check with multimeter if the coil is good or damaged if i have your problem i will change the gold antenna J2_RF and change wifi antenna
iphone-4-4s-wifi-antenna-connector-port-2.jpg
ip4wifi.jpg
iphone-4s-bluetooth-antenna-fastening-piece.jpg

if you dont have this parts and you cant change it so you can clean the wifi antenna and resolder J2_RF also resolder or replace FL10_RF
your phone is water damaged i dont think wifi ic damaged so you must be sure from antenna ways

although the coil and filter seemed to be ok.
I have by-passed them.

Now the signal level is better but still not as good as it should be.
But it is acceptable.

New battery works OK

So repair is done.
On to the next challange

if you look on the complete schematics.
You can count the pins on the connnector.

It is de connector where the dock flex is connected on the main board.
In my case there was something wrong in the dock flex.
After replacing the dock flex the auto power on was solved.
