Ok thus happened to me when I bypassed a1475 (iPad Air) and when I bypassed a1459 (iPad 4) it would download the proper Ipswich and extract it in iTunes fine and it would start the restore process but alert at the same point would lose the connection to the iPad while restoring. This was with fully rebuilt iPad. Would always give same restore error 4014. The only way I was able to get it to properly restore was by disconnecting the battery and using a dc power supply on the iPad while restoring. And it worked perfectly each time I just watched the restore log files and when it said restore success finally I took it off the dc power supply and connected the iPad battery like normal and I was able to power it on with the power button and the setup process began.

I have done 15-20 ipads without much problems, only a few. Sometimes it would take a lot of tries to restore, sometimes only works with original cable
