hello. mine was not a success either. i managed to get the nand out of the ipad 4 and cleaned the board. i blew off 3 caps also but managed to put all back in place.
I soldered an iphone 5 nand from a dead board i had here and iphone gets to dfu and then i get 4014 error. i tried puttint the old nand back but i think i might have killed it while trying to make sure that i remove the chip without damaging the board because it does not start at all with the old one, not even in DFU, i can hear a weird sound like a clicking hdd coming from the nand chip.
So my question is, did i kill the board, or both of my nand chips are bad?

Did u reprogram the nand you pulled from the iPhone 5 or you just pulled it off and soldered it to the ipad 4?

i did not reprogram it. as i said i am new to this, i normally do gaming console repairs. from what i understood it should have worked without programming. if i would have had a way to program, i would have programmed the original nand since it was 32 gb not 16 like the one from iphone 5

i want to check the nand voltages but i can not find any 3V also, all big caps seem to have 1.8V at one of the ends except one of them. so i dont know if its supposed to be like this because i can not find any references to compare to. around the nand there are 6 big caps. i get voltages on 5 of them (1.8), so maybe this is the problem?

i do not see an edit function here, so sorry for the triple post. so i have reattached the iphone 5 Nand again and also reflowed the smd's that i previously moved. i have made a picture as well, I have 1.8V at all the big capacitors red circled ends now. so i think the problem is in the nand. what do you guys say? should i order a reprogrammed one from china? i can not find any in europe...

I have an iPad Air 2 with this problem, I already lost one and use it at spare parts now, now I have the second one and trying to figure this one out.

There were two issues, one I pulled one of the pads (E3) while cleaning the black glue (already fixed with a wire and copper foil pad), second there was a short on (C1800) the board got hot, but after I found the bad cap it went into DFU and now "waiting for ipad" for ever.

So now armed with your information it looks like there is something wrong on the board it self, but unfortunately can't find where.

Board is powering on usb
borad powers on battery
VCC Main is 3.7v <-- maybe the problem schematic shows 4.7v

Now, can you give me some pointers on this, I'm afraid I'm doing more harm to the board every time I try to pull and solder to test.

Thanks.

BTW: the board will be on "waiting for ipad" even before the short cap. I think I did the short on solder, re solder so many times and I do have ribbons to test, but had a bad outcome with those, the only ones that worked fine in the past are the short ribbons LG60 not the long ribbon LG52.

Thanks in advance

vcc_main looks low (possibly at threshold infact) replace battery with psu at 4.2v this is above threshold boot voltage, set max amps at 2.1 to ensure no damage to board power tracks if there is a ground leak thru a short on vcc_main..

low temp solder paste 136 degrees, this is lower than smd rework preheat temp at 150 so no chance of damage when relifting multiple times. personally when I first start testing a new device type i use short ribbons.
Failing to preheat can damage pad links underneath pab due to thermal shock.

At the very least high air flow at 150 for a few minutes then upto 350 to lift nand at moderate flow. this also greatly reduces the epoxy strength which drops to nothing at 230. A nand costs peanuts, the board protection is more important and the nand is better made than the pcb lol

Thanks, that is what I'm looking for, that half short cap or resistor

I'll get more readings and post.

i know preheating is very important as i do professional reballs on daily basis, but on much bigger hardware. what i dont understand now is if the board is damaged or i need a new nand. as far as i can tell, the board goes to DFU successfully, but i need to reball the touch ic as well since 2 solder balls slided out from under it.
I tried removing nands from 2 other dead devices before just as a practice, and it all went ok and much easier than this ipad. with this one it seemed like it just did not want to move so i did apply temperature for quite a while, but did not went above 320, then went to 400 for a very short time when i was also able to remove the nand chip. the pads look good and i tested some of them that i could trace and they do have continuity. maybe if there would be a diagram to test the others out it would be great.

you can also use ip4 3.1 i used it with no problem with serial debugging cable..better to use at ipad 2 nand ic that not compatible in ipbox v2..

I used 4.2v and now iTunes will detect the ipad but will never switch to DFU

This is iTunes log from before, battery 4.0 and usb, log 31k, stops on second DFU loop.

Why buy? If you have nand programmer just make up your own unique serial.
