Member: 532148 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | I soldered an iphone 5 nand from a dead board i had here and iphone gets to dfu and then i get 4014 error. i tried puttint the old nand back but i think i might have killed it while trying to make sure that i remove the chip without damaging the board because it does not start at all with the old one, not even in DFU, i can hear a weird sound like a clicking hdd coming from the nand chip. So my question is, did i kill the board, or both of my nand chips are bad? |

Member: 532148 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | i did not reprogram it. as i said i am new to this, i normally do gaming console repairs. from what i understood it should have worked without programming. if i would have had a way to program, i would have programmed the original nand since it was 32 gb not 16 like the one from iphone 5 |

Member: 532148 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | i want to check the nand voltages but i can not find any 3V also, all big caps seem to have 1.8V at one of the ends except one of them. so i dont know if its supposed to be like this because i can not find any references to compare to. around the nand there are 6 big caps. i get voltages on 5 of them (1.8), so maybe this is the problem? |

Member: 532148 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | i do not see an edit function here, so sorry for the triple post. so i have reattached the iphone 5 Nand again and also reflowed the smd's that i previously moved. i have made a picture as well, I have 1.8V at all the big capacitors red circled ends now. so i think the problem is in the nand. what do you guys say? should i order a reprogrammed one from china? i can not find any in europe... see picture here: h t t p s :/ / ibb. co/ nwVUA5 (remove spaces) |

Failing to preheat can damage pad links underneath pab due to thermal shock. At the very least high air flow at 150 for a few minutes then upto 350 to lift nand at moderate flow. this also greatly reduces the epoxy strength which drops to nothing at 230. A nand costs peanuts, the board protection is more important and the nand is better made than the pcb lol | |

Member: 532148 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | i know preheating is very important as i do professional reballs on daily basis, but on much bigger hardware. what i dont understand now is if the board is damaged or i need a new nand. as far as i can tell, the board goes to DFU successfully, but i need to reball the touch ic as well since 2 solder balls slided out from under it. I tried removing nands from 2 other dead devices before just as a practice, and it all went ok and much easier than this ipad. with this one it seemed like it just did not want to move so i did apply temperature for quite a while, but did not went above 320, then went to 400 for a very short time when i was also able to remove the nand chip. the pads look good and i tested some of them that i could trace and they do have continuity. maybe if there would be a diagram to test the others out it would be great. |
