iPad mini battery percentage only 1% or 100%

I've got an ipad mini 1st gen that I am replacing the touch screen on.

At first it showed 28% battery, but then turned off and needed to be charged, after charging it showed 100% while I tried draining the battery all day. I did that twice leaving it overnight to charge.

I then put it in DFU mode and updated to IOS 8.1.3 and now it is showing 1%, I put it on charge but it is still saying 1%.

The lightening symbol shows when it charges, just the percentage doesn't change.

Any tips?

I tested with a replacement battery, and its only showing 2% after a few hours of charging. The same charger and cable is charging other devices fine.

Yup, I'd bet money the components to the left of the battery connector on logic board are chipped away!

+ 1 for axiom and pause the feed, this happen when capacitors near battery connector are missing.

Ouch! What a mess, many thanks for pointing that one out.
My advice, be extremely careful when removing the battery connector, even a plastic tool can dislodge those parts!

Job done. I tried soldering that fusible link (that is loose in that picture) to no avail, its just too tiny for my eyes. Ended up just soldering a thin piece of wire across it instead.
Turned it on, and instantly it showed 87%, and is increasing as it should when charging.
I left the capacitor off as it was missing, its even smaller, hopefully it doesn't matter!

If capacitor is a filtering one, there's no sugar, dont worry but if is not, you will still have problems with charging-discharging process.

Its 33PF, I think I might fit a normal one between the 2 pins on the battery socket.
