Hi All, great info here... I have a problem with the LCD connector on the logic board - that receives cable number 1.
If you're looking at the phone the right way up, with the connector on the top right hand side, the pin on the top row at the far right hand side has broken off.

Can anyone tell me what this pin does on the LCD display?

I think it may be the backlight to the LCD as the screen now has no backlight - however i'm not 100% sure the LCD is working correctly either so i'd like to know if anyone knows for sure what this pin does?

Also, to fix the solution, could i crudely put a piece of solder onto the remains of the pin on the logic board, to make the connection to the plug on cable number 1? Or is ist a simple de-solder the whole connector and resolder a new one? [by the way - i wouldnt be the best solderer in the world!! ]

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

running out of ideas how to recover my iphone..

the other day it said "no service" when i woke up, waited, nothing happened, finally decided to reset it.. and it's just been resetting ever since. took it to the genius bar also, they claim it's bricked (prolly because they saw my tmobile sim card in the phone instead of the at&t, and they realize it's bee jail broken).

even took it apart to look around, and put it back together (sometimes that fixes minor issues with some electronics).. but same problem persists!

would really like to backup my current data or get access to it somehow.. i'm considering getting a broken-screen iphone and maybe doing a transplant on the memory chip?? i know how to solder a little but the small size of the chip connects is a little daunting so i would rather not try (if it comes to that, does anyone have any advice??).. hmm, not even sure how to get the metal shield off the display side of the logic board

so far, iTunes doesn't see the phone (unless i boot it to recovery mode).. is there a way to force a backup of the data in recovery mode perhaps??

plz help

Cell2Cell - Did you find out if it was the pin or another problem causing the loss of the backlight?

Solder Pad on iphone sim card broken

Hi,

I've just been given a 3G iphone by a friend. He put the sim card tray in the wrong way round and broke some of the ***** pins. He therefore got a replacement part to solder on, but whilst removing the old connector he also managed to remove the solder pads from the PCB, so that there's now nothing to solder it to. Does anyone have any knowledge if there's somewhere else to pick up these connections on the logic board?

Thanks

My problem with the removed solder pad was discussed back at the beginning of this thread and some people attempted to answer it, but I am a bit lost.

In the above image I am missing the pad for the blue connection. Does anyone know if this edited image refers to the iphone 3G as I can't find anywhere that looks like the embedded image to link it to...

Thanks for confirming it is the 3G model of the phone. I have removed the graphite sheet and now am faced with a PCB which looks identical to the one shown here http://s2.guide-images.ifixit.com/ig...1YVQh2IW.large . I would be very grateful if someone could show the correlation between this image and the previous one from nafg. If someone could highlight where the various colour-coded points connect to from the original image...
