Iphone 5 -Stuck Waiting For Iphone In Recovery Mode

I have an Iphone 5 that crashed and the screen went black. It then went into recovery mode but gets stuck with the message "Waiting For Iphone" in Itunes at the point of downloading the software to the phone.

From reading it seems like it may be a problem with the Nand but how would you go about fixing it or troubleshooting where the problem lies?

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible to replace this to fix the problem? I know it probably isn't easy and involves removing chips.
