iphone 5s error 9 (water damaged)

The iphone 5s initially cracked at the top right of the screen (picture)
it was working ok it wasn't nothing major that cause any internal damage
because this was my sister phone..
she told me that a water spilled in to her phone and the water went right through the hole where the cracked is ... it still worked but water got into it.. until she gave it to me it started flickering white screen until it went completely dead, LCD completely blank just black...
so i took t my friend who i know fixes cellphone and he said the LCD is dead.. he cleaned already the traces of the water damage he had dried several times..
when he put in his working LCD it turned on. but the problem is that it could not complete itune recovery it keeps saying ERROR 9
he tried changing a different cable (original)
use different usb port..

until now could fix it.. was wondering if this is a hardware problem that needs to look into..

thanks

For error 9 you have to change charging port flat. Try this bro.

Did he use hot air or iron to remove the shields on the 5S?

Even ultrasonic cleaner won't properly clean these devices without the shields removed.
