Hi! First post here, hope I'm doing it right.

I know of some approved methods for replacing IC chips but they all seem to require fairly specialized equipment. I have a water-damaged iPhone 4S board with a suspect U19 digitizer chip - I just want to swap it out with one off a spare board. Is there a way of doing this without reballing stencils etc? This is a one-off exercise (hopefully) so I don't want to buy equipment I'm unlikely to use again. I do have a hot-air station, temp controlled soldering iron and microspcope that I've been using successfully to replace discrete components like caps and connectors. I've got as far as removing the U19 from the board and from the donor board, which I've managed to do fairly neatly without tearing pads or anything. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Don't do, you will brake the pads, see this for reballing:

Awesome - thanks! I've been practising trying to get those pyramids, just can't do it - I guess tip temperature is crucial - any idea what he's using? Also solder - do you know if he's using leaded or lead free?

Anyway my work has ground to a halt until I figure out what to do with my rework station - I just replaced the iron heating element then tested for earthing and discovered there is 27VAC at the tip! Took the station apart (Youde 852D+ - yep, yet another Chinese clone) and found that the only thing that's earthed is the case, and the PCB and everything else is isolated from it. I don't know enough about these things to know what to do about it. Guess I'll post a thread somewhere else on the forum and hope someone can help me. A schematic would be handy, I've searched everywhere.
