Ultrasonic Cleaning, How Long to Do It?

I tried cleaning two water damaged iphone 6 boards in 99% alcohol for 40 minutes, no success. My ultrasonic cleaner goes up to 80C and has 200 watts of power, so I think it is suitable for the job. Did I overdo it? Should I not use alcohol? Please let me know and thanks in advance for all replies

Do you use water or alcohol? Do you have an idea what your success rate is?

I use both, and often mix both with a spot of detergent. I take it the boards you have are water damaged? I have a 100% success rate, as i only expect my machine to clean them, lol. water damaged phones, need re-soldering, in my opinion

you want to use water, to clean the board from water?!?!? you wanted to say something different, i hope...

about 10-15 minutes should be more then enought, meanwhile you also can take the board out and clean it with tooth brush or something similar, then put it back again.

this cleaning can help you to get rid of some dirt, left from water, but you can not make the board "new" with it, especially if the board haven't been cleaned up right after it got contact with fluids. as much sooner you clean the board, that much bigger is the chance that the alcohol (or similar) cleaning will help you to rescue the board, BEFORE the water (or whatever) made the damage to the board, which you can not repair later...

Agree with dog68. Mix of deminalised water some alcohol and anti cal to clean to metal of a shower head works great. Makes your connectors shine.

Only alcohol will not work when you have soft drink damage or other sugar stuff on the board.

Use compressed air to clean board or use your hot air gun on low temperture and high air flow to clean the water away under ic's

Just turn the ultra sonic bath on for a few runs of 3min is enough.

After the bath, you should check for bad connections and shorted caps.

You need to do some basic checks with multimeter, Check for shorts on battery pins, power lines, usb protect circuits etc.

We would use a detergent called Galvex 17;13 for cleaning PCB’s. You can dip them in alcohol after cleaning to dry them. Be careful with alcohol in a heated ultrasonic tank as the flashpoint is very low and could cause an explosion of fumes.
