It is not hard to open the phone. It easy very very very easy and fast. Only 4-5 screws and no clips.
Other way to check but no 100% sure is if on the gsm signal you have a cross circle. This is becouse you don't have the antena.

What dose he whant? To not open the phone?

If he don't whant to open then phone. Only the gsm signal is the clue:

- if it looks like this, it has GSM module http://www.google.com/imgres?q=gsm+s...9,r:2,s:0,i:75

- if it looks like this, it dosen't have GSM module: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=no+st...:11,s:43,i:243

It is posible but if you have a working phone, not a live demo unit. Search the forum if you don't know what it is.
If it is a working phone, after writing the IMEI it will work.

I had the same issue,.
you just have to perform a hard reset from the the phone, don't use the buttons combination to do the hard reset

Yes, it is possible to change the imei on the i9300 using Octopus box, but you you need to make sure that all dirvers are installed correctly.
try the following.
1. on keypad dial *#7284#, hit Qualcomm SUB settings and chose DM + MODEM + ADB
2. dial *#9090#, chose USB
3. connect the phone to the pc and wait for the computer to install drivers, reboot the phone after its done with installing the drivers
4. finally try again with octopus software to change the imei
* make sure to write the right imei and only change the last 1 number of that imei *
